158-160 Waverley Road, Malvern East is up for public auction on 30 November at 12pm onsite. The building was home to the historic Pepperell’s Hardware, a family business that celebrates its 95th year of operation in 2017. Offered with Vacant Possession, the 550m2* building is a piece of Malvern History.

“This is the chance for the new purchaser to create their own piece of history in Waverley Road”
The block of land was first purchased in 1922 by Cuthbert Cyril Pepperell. Cuthbert, a carpenter in the local area, built a weatherboard building on the rear of the property, from which he operated a joinery business. The business evolved rapidly as Cuthbert loved doing building repairs and handyman jobs around the area. As he was constantly being asked for nails, paint and screws he decided to expand the business and built the property at the front, hence Pepperell’s Hardware commenced.
Earlier this year the Pepperell Family name was honoured by the council decision to name the laneway at the rear of their hardware store, Pepperell’s Lane.
More information on the history of the property can be found overleaf.
