I write this letter in reference to the services that Gross Waddell has provided to the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne over a period of 20 years. The Anglican Diocese of Melbourne (Diocese) is comprised of 205 parishes (over 700 properties) from the Bellarine Peninsula, throughout greater Melbourne and down to the Mornington Peninsula. I have personally worked with Gross Waddell over the last three years.


Gross Waddell is the exclusive commercial agent for the Diocese for all sales and commercial leasing requirements. In addition, Gross Waddell provides the Diocese with general property advice across our portfolio of property. In respect of our long church history, many of our properties have complicated titles and planning constraints and our buildings often have heritage considerations. In addition, there are considerable sensitivities associated with property matters within the church. In relation to these matters, Gross Waddell has achieved excellent outcomes for our property transactions demonstrating its extensive industry knowledge, depth of industry contacts and understanding of the uniqueness of our industry. In each of our property transactions, Gross Waddell has been able to develop excellent relationships with the relevant parish and associated stakeholders, engendering a high level of trust and confidence in its service.


Over the last three years, I have worked with Gross Waddell on several sale transactions where the results have exceeded our financial expectations. Of note are the sales of sites (church, vicarage and hall) in the parishes of Yarraville and Footscray earlier this year, where the sales results, being well over valuation, are allowing the parishes to undertake extensive works on their other church sites. Last year, a sale of property and associated joint venture with a developer at our Essendon parish, is providing the Parish with a small development assuring it of ongoing income to support its ministry activities and ensure the ongoing significant maintenance of its heritage buildings. This was a very complicated transaction requiring considerable negotiations with interested parties to ensure the selection of a joint venture partner who was suitable to work closely with the Parish and Diocese, as well as achieving an appropriate financial outcome.
